Louis Féraud 1990s Alizarin Red Bejewelled Button Knee Length Midi Dress Jacket
Born in February of 1921, Louis Féraud is now best known as the man who styled Brigitte Bardot, when having dropped into his small boutique in Cannes in the summer of 1955, she walked out in one of his signature ‘white dresses’, thereby causing Louis to sell over five hundred more to the visiting public in the days that followed.
Having gone on to dress many of the Paris elite, including Kim Novak, Ingrid Bergman and Brigitte herself, Louis opened two additional stores, before presenting his debut haute couture collection in 1958. Success continued throughout the next decade, with Louis winning the ‘Golden Thimble’ award in both 1978 and 1984 for his flamboyant designs and uncompromising cuts.
Eventually acquired by the Dutch business group Secon in 1999, Louis remained an artist first and couturier second, regularly painting and exhibiting his unique style and visual flair, until a four-year battle with Alzheimers led to his death in December of that year aged 78.
The Louis Féraud brand is still active today, and despite operating under new owners, it enjoys annual revenues in the millions and shows no signs of slowing down.
This particular piece is a 1990s deep alizarin red knee length dinner jacket dress, which was once part of a skirt suit, which were very popular in the early and mid 1990s. Sadly, the skirt has been lost over the passage of time, however this beautiful jacket still remains in pristine condition and so can easily be worn as a stunning dress without losing any of its original allure.
