J. Garcia 1980s Curves and Lines Balloon Tie
Perhaps unknown to many, the design label J. Garcia actually belongs to the once lead guitarist of U.S rock band ‘The Grateful Dead’.
Having studied at the San Francisco Art Institute as a teenager, Jerry Garcia went on to showcase his art designs in the mid to late 1980s, largely by way of watercolour paintings and lithographic pieces, both of which went on to form his collection of men’s ties, as sold under the J. Garcia label, but manufactured under neckwear manufacturer Stonehenge Ltd.
With advance orders from large stores such as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and Land’s End, the range was a huge success, and despite Jerry’s passing in summer of 1995, these ties can still be purchased online and remain popular with both fans of the band and style aficionados with a penchant for the unusual.
This is a 1980s J. Garcia ‘Curves and Lines Collection’ silky-smooth tie for all those special occasions with an abstract balloon print in gold, purple and blue with an angular black, green and red background. This particular tie is wonderfully unisex and thus perfect looking for guys and gals alike.
