The infamous Boutique Label BIBA was founded in the '60s by Polish born Barbara Hulanicki. Starting out as a mail order company, BIBA swiftly advanced into an absolute sensation for every 'switched on dolly bird' of the time. Named as 'The most IN shop for gear' in the 1970s by fashionistas, models and celebrities alike, all yearning to adorn themselves with Biba's signature smock or iconic pinafore and retro printed skirts. The BIBA style was romantic and sensual, it consisted of what Hulanicki described as "Auntie Colours" - a rather unusual way to describe rather passionate hues of blackish mulberries, blueberries, rusts and plums. BIBA may well have officially closed it's doors in the 70s, but the brand's legacy lives, if not thrives on with original pieces being highly sought after.
This simple yet strikingly classic sweater from BIBA features a wide scoop neck, long length sleeves and an incredibly stretchy ribbed wool fabric throughout. Wonderfully fitted to the form for a clean and defined silhouette. To the upper bodice a spattering of bronze mini floral motifs - so typically BIBA! This is a strikingly handsome and rare piece of BIBA design to add a little romance and sought after fashion history to any girls wardrobe!
