Gina Fratini

Gina was born to British nobility in Japan and spent most of her childhood in India. She studied at the Royal College of Arts and later set up her own business in 1964 becoming one of the top British designers of the early 70s. She won Dress of the Year Award in 1975 and some of her designs from that period are held in the V & A Museum's costume collection. Elizabeth Taylor was know to have worn a Fratini wedding dress for her second wedding to Richard Burton and Diana, Princess of Wales, also wore Fratini creations to public events.

An incredibly elegant late 1970s gown by designer Gina Fratini. Much of her work is fluid, floaty with feminine frills or lacework - visually striking and ever so dramatic. This beautiful example of Fratini's work is by no means an exception to the rule.
This glorious dress is made of the finest and lightest layers of silk and silk lace.  This piece certainly has a Victorian feel to it in areas of the cut and panel detail. Fitted empire bodice, lightly ballooned  sleeves and cinched at the waist with a  fabric tie, the drape of this dress is beautifully subtle and incredibly feminine  - perfect design in every way!

Clothing Details
Designer Gina Fratini
Fabric 100% Silk and so fortunately silk is one of the easier fabrics to dye should you wish.
Labelled Size No size label present - but would fit size UK 8 -10 - 'the waist is nipped in'
Condition / Flaws This beautiful dress is NOT perfect and the price is reflected in its imperfections. There are no rips or mends at all. The fabric is lush and colour vibrant. There are several coloured age spots throughout the dress skirting and a black mark to the left shoulder. Most of the discolouration is concentrated at the hemline which could of course be shorted to remove this. And, as stated the dress can always be dyed as it is 100% silk. Item has been professionally dry cleaned so is fresh and hygienic. Sold as Vintage.
