‘Aha, a button! A small pearl button, one f a family of eight. Settling down on the tiniest black dress ever; tiny halter bodice and tinier flaring skirt of watered taffeta.’ By Mary Quant Ginger Group, 6 1/2 gns., Peter Robinson; Lucinda Byre.

‘Sort of skinny coat, skimming and small in front, with an inset panel full of buttons and tabs on the sleeves. In Vanilla and chocolate tweed. And what a funny little hat, shaggy mongolian lamb story, with scarf too.’ Coat, Roger Nelson, 25 1/2 gns., at Maxine Leighton. Curly Chapal lamb hat and scarf, James Wedge, 9 1/2 gns., Liberty. Suede gloves, Fownes.

‘Bit of a joke this mad fake fur, scrumptious little brown moles, all made of rayon and cotton. Lazy sort of fit, double delicious horn buttons. Feels fabulous.’ By Gerald McCann, 21 gns., at Woollands; Valentine, Bedford.

‘Look, my jacket’s long. Long and thin and coloured camel. They’re cutting the jackets finer this year, trousers are straight and low on the hips. The collar’s fairly military, high and arrogant, and the black buttons slip down one side.’ By Foale & Tuffin, jacket, 14 gns., trousers, 7 gns., at Woolands; Rave Boutique, Harrow.
‘Get ahead, put a tiger on it. Chapal tiger patterned coney scarf and all.’ James Wedge, 14 gns., Countdown, King Road

‘Narrow, you see, seams all seaming, and a flourish of flare behind. Nrass buttoning, pockets flapping and a collar full of arrogance again. Khaki, of course.’ By Gerlad McCann, 20 1/2 gns., Woollands; Kempthornes. Hair by Leslie at Raphael & Leonard

Photography by Breiten Moser. Scanned from Vogue September 1st 1965 by Miss Booty Barefoot for Vintage Editorials: Talking Points…

Some of these images are slightly reminiscent of André Courrèges, slightly space age in style with a military angle. Beautiful photography by Breiten Moser, the images are just spectacular and I have to say that my favorite piece of clothing would have to be the black fake fur by Gerald McCann – really very lush looking with huge resin buttons!
