On my playlist this month…..The Band Known as ‘HEART’. I have now listened to all of their albums 12 times in the last four weeks – I counted!
I was first introduced to their music at the tender age of 15 – many, many, many moons ago. Yes it was the BIG hair, BOLD make up, BLACK lace 1980′s ‘HEART’ that was first played on my ancient tape deck (showing my age) but this changed in time once I discovered their true folky back ground. Of course, at that point in my life I was very much an empty vessel craving to be filled with new and exciting ideas and concepts. I loved ‘The Doors’ and yes Jim Morrison was one of my first teenaged crushes. I had a fascination with ‘Stevie Nicks’ and listened to every ‘Fleetwood Mac’ Album I could find. Clearly, I was experimenting with various kinds of musical tastes, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Chalice…to name but a few.
The reason that HEART stood out for me particularly, was because they were girls that fronted a ‘ROCK’ band. Very cool. Very strong, Very sassy. Not only did they front a Rock Band in the early 1970′s, they both sang, wrote songs, played the flute and guitar, they were strikingly beautiful & had an incredibly feminine yet foxy look – I especially swooned over the ‘Little Queen’ album cover garb – simply stunning, with a very on trend ‘Medieval’ theme that was so popular at the time. And what with the purple tights, flowing gowns and black corsets – these are my kind of girls.
And now …..a little bit of the HEART that I love, love, love xxxx
And also from 1977 some very rare live concert footage…Check out Ann’s dress….Love it! Bare in mind this date’s from 1977 – so image quality is not great…but the music ROCKS! Well… I think so anyhow….xx
