Exquisitely fanciful and romantic gown by British designer Catherine Buckley.
Catherine Buckley was best known as the designer of clothes for Joanna Lumley in the 1976 New Avengers series and is primarily known for using delicate antique jacquard lace fabrics to create highly individual pieces. Please see one of my very own blogs detailing one of Buckley's designs here: http://www.barefoot-vintage.co.uk/blog/tag/catherine-buckley-dress/
This particular dress was purchased in 1974 for a wedding and safely packaged away since that day. This astonishing beauty bears the classic Catherine Buckley label, dating the lace between 1905 and 1935, so a rare and exquisite find in such grand condition.
Capturing the era wonderfully, the style of this stunning gown is unmistakably Belle Époque, from the delicate lace high collar, to the tiered, silk taffeta lined, deep ruffled hem, to the extraordinary detailed floral embossed belt. Catherine Buckley's pieces appear to be incredibly detailed pieces of work, certainly first class designer fashion of the time, portraying the epitome of a true English Rose. Heavenly feminine, refined elegance....
